Harper using Karl Rove Bag of Tricks

Stephen Harper, our current Prime Minister, has provided the Canadian public with the clearest example to date of the Rovination of Canadian politics. That is to say he is borrowing heavily from the U.S. Republican Party’s Bag-O-Tricks by labelling all the Liberal party leadership candidates as anti-Israel.

Its the sort of thing you’d expect Karl Rove to put in George W. Bush’s mouth. Mr. Harper deserves to have the abombinable tactic backfire on him.

What the current issue revolves around is federal Liberal leadership candidate Michael Ignatief who this week is trying to back-pedal over his sorry record of comments regarding the Israeli-Lebanon war this summer. Ignatief is a fair target to be sure, after exclaiming that he’d not lose any sleep over civilians killed by Israeli bombing runs in Qana. Human rights watch confirmed that at least 28 had been killed in the bombed out apartment building, including 16 children.

Harper’s record over the same period of time is equally detestable. He called Israel’s actions a measured response.

Most Canadians are worldly and astute enough to understand that there are bad actors in both sides of that, and most, conflicts. However Harper is banking on sufficient ignorance within the population, and failing memories as time passes, in order to use a “republican” attack on his own enemies.

Its not right. Its not Canadian.
