Feb 26 (The Vancouver Sun) Protesters continue push for Emerson’s resignation

VANCOUVER—The push to get Trade Minister David Emerson to resign and face a byelection continues in Vancouver. Demonstrators at a rally Saturday vowed to keep up the fight.

Feb 25 (CKNW/Vancouver) Emerson Protesters Arrested

VANCOUVER – Four people staging a protest inside Vancouver-Kingsway MP David Emerson’s constituency office have been arrested for trespassing.

Three were charged and released on a promise to appear because they willingly left the office, but one protestor, Manuel Pereda, refused to leave and was taken away in a paddy-wagon. All four have been charged with assault by trespass and will head to BC Provincial Court in late march. As a condition of their release, they have agreed not to enter into Emerson’s office in protest again.

Police were called when the protesters refused to leave the constituency office at 9 pm, four and a half hours after it was scheduled to close. Emerson’s press secretary says a staff member was pushed by a protester, but police say they have no indication that ever happened.

Emerson’s press secretrary, Jennifer Chiu, ought to have simply told the truth “we had them arrested because we were tired of letting the constituents show us up in front of the media”.

Feb 26 (24 Hours Vancouver) One busted at Emerson’s office

Police arrested a man in David Emerson’s riding office on Friday night while three others avoided handcuffs by agreeing to appear in court.

The four protesters were attempting to schedule an appointment with Emerson in response to his joining the Conservative government. Police arrested Manuel Pereda for trespassing after he allegedly refused to leave Emerson’s Kingsway riding office Friday night.

“Emerson had said he was not going to talk to them and they said they wouldn’t leave until they had a meeting scheduled,” said protester Margaret Panton. “It was all very peaceful, there was no rowdiness, even the person who decided to be arrested [Pereda] walked himself to the police car when the time came.”

Feb 25 (CTV News) Four arrested during sit-in at Emerson’s BC office

The group of angry voters staged the sit-in at Emerson’s Vancouver-Kingsway office in Vancouver, protesting his decision to cross the floor to the Conservatives after being elected last month as a Liberal.
