Explosions rock Baghdad as US attacks
Its started. Canada is divided on where it stands, although a polling majority are opposed to the action altogether. [CBC]
- Saddam calls attack ‘shameful crime’
- PMO silent but Liberal cabinet minister says Bush ‘let down’ the world
- Disarmament was working: Chrétien
I'm less willing to ignore the past than Chrétien. Lets not also forget:
- Saddam's Killing Fields (CBC January 10 1994) Genocide in Iraq - Saddam Hussain's war against his own people
- Kuwait Invasion 2 August 1990
Where to start on this subject? Nothing about this conflict is as simple as the pro and anti folks want to make it out to be. The Canadian Alliance has started its predictably shrill attack on the PMO. Tory MP's have, understandably, a variety of views. I certainly identify more with those who realize its not a black and white situation.
Probably a few Canadians would like to have seen Brian Mulroney in office right now, knowing he would have found a way to help shape events, to put a Canadian stamp on things. Personally, I think the US has handled things rather badly, but I can't bring myself to condeming the goal of ridding the world of a terrible dictator.
